Kahuku, HI
The number 3 powerhouse team in the nation, Bishop Gorman Gaels, visited the Islands Saturday night as they would head up to the North Shore to face off against the Kahuku Red Raiders. The two teams met last year in Las Vegas with a win coming from Bishop Gorman. As the Gaels from the 9th island travel to paradise, they look to continue to dominate and prove that they belong in the top 5.
The gaels would play their second game of the season on the road again, in hopes to take care of business in paradise. We would see many familiar faces make their homecoming return to the islands. as Hawai'i would call Las Vegas the 9th island, many athletes like; Maika Eugenio, Kaina Watson, Zyren menor, tamatoa gaoteote, and more would return to home soil.
Kahuku would generate two wins after the disappointing opener in week 1. With a powerhouse team like Bishop Gorman, the red raiders could build upon their season facing a top national team in hopes of preparing themselves for the start of the regular season. Many players would get an opportunity to face off against one of the best and gain experience and knowledge heading forward.
Playing on the road is never easy, especially with an environment that the Red Sea holds on the north shore. Bishop Gorman would start off with a touchdown off the first drive and didn't look back. Senior QB, Maika Eugenio, is a University of Hawaii warrior commit and he did not disappoint on the Island where he will be playing for. Maika threw for 3 TD’s along with a flea flicker from teammate, Kaina Watson, in the first half. Former Kamehameha warrior and now senior wr for the gaels, kaina Watson, went off against the raiders as he had himself 3 td catches and one touchdown pass as mentioned earlier. Watson would be the impact player of the game, as he would also go off in front of his family.
The defense led by Junior LB, Tamatoa Gaoteote and Senior S, Jett Washington (University of Oregon Commit) held the Raiders to their second shutout of the season. In what could've been a touchdown for the red raiders off a kickoff, ended up being called back for the Red Sea. The gaels handle business on the north shore and get their second win of the season.
Bishop Gorman will play their next 3 games at home, as they prepare to face off against the number one team in the nation, mater dei monarchs in week 6 of their schedule. as for the red raiders, they will also play against the number one monarchs, as they hit the road and travel up to California for week 5 of their schedule.
