Tainoa Lave, a versatile playmaker for the Campbell Sabers, has been named the November 2025 Cover Athlete of the Month, presented by Matsumoto Shave Ice. Lave is the first football recipient from Campbell to win the award, recognized for his outstanding performance during the postseason and championship run.
The San Diego State commit made his mark in key postseason games against Mililani, Kahuku, and Kamehameha-Kapalama. Lave’s ability to step up in high-pressure moments helped the Sabers navigate one of the most competitive stretches of the season.
One of the defining moments of his career came in the state semifinal against Kahuku, where Lave scored the go-ahead touchdown with only 2 seconds left, sending Campbell to the state championship match for the first time since the 2000s. In the championship game against Kamehameha-Kapalama, Lave recorded 10.5 tackles and a rushing touchdown, helping the Sabers lift the Koa Wood Trophy and bring it back to Ewa Beach.
Throughout the postseason, Lave demonstrated his versatility as a “Swiss Army knife” for the Sabers, contributing both offensively and defensively. His consistent playmaking allowed Campbell to execute key drives, maintain momentum, and overcome some of the state’s top teams. Lave’s leadership and ability to perform in clutch moments were central to the Sabers’ historic postseason success.
Lave’s performance in November highlighted not only his skill and athleticism but also his poise under pressure, making him a standout among Hawai‘i’s high school athletes. His contributions were pivotal in keeping Campbell’s championship dreams alive and ultimately achieving historic results for the program.
As the Month of November comes to an end, the search for a new Cover Athlete of the Month begins. Who is going to walk away with the award for December? Only time will tell as we announce the winner next month.
Congratulations to Tainoa on winning the Cover Athlete of the Month presented by Matsumoto Shave Ice.
Mahalo to our sponsor, Matsumoto Shave Ice, for their endless support for the student athletes in the state of Hawai‘i.
