the Radford rams took down Nanakuli goldenhawks in the 2026 OIA D2 softball Championship, coming away with a 6–4 win in a game that remained competitive from start to finish. the lady rams would secure their first championship in school history. with the These two teams being no strangers to each other, Nanakuli would take both matchups earlier in the regular season, setting the stage for Radford to come in looking for some payback with the title on the line.
Nanakuli got things going first, putting up 2 runs in the opening inning to set the tone, but Radford didn’t take long to respond. The Rams answered right back in the second with 3 runs of their own, stringing together quality at-bats to take the lead and shift the momentum. From there, the game settled in with both teams trading moments, as Nanakuli found a way to tie it back up and keep things right there through the middle innings.
With the game still within reach on both sides, it came down to who was going to make a play late. Radford found that moment in the 6th, coming through with key hits to bring in 2 runs and give themselves the edge. Once they got that lead, you could feel the momentum fully swing, and they stayed locked in the rest of the way to close it out.
Kyralee-Marie Cordeiro had a big impact on the game, doing it on both sides. She came through with clutch hits at the plate and then stepped in the circle and handled the final innings, keeping Nanakuli from getting anything going late. Radford’s ability to stay composed in those moments and come through when it mattered most ended up being the difference.
Nanakuli stayed in it the whole way, with Kailey Naehu leading the charge and delivering big hits to keep her team within reach, but Radford’s execution late was just enough to separate the two.
A nail-biting championship match would be the only way fitting for the Lady Rams to win their first OIA title in school history. congratulations to the radford rams softball program, school, and community!
