Haleiwa, HI
The May 2026 Cover Athlete of the Month, presented by Matsumoto Shave Ice, is Koa Marzo of Mililani Baseball. The University of Hawai‘i commit helped lead the Trojans through one of the most memorable seasons in program history, culminating in Mililani's first HHSAA Division I Baseball State Championship. As the postseason intensified, Marzo continued to rise to the occasion, providing leadership, consistency, and timely performances that helped guide the Trojans through the toughest stretch of the season. His ability to deliver in key moments made him one of the driving forces behind Mililani's championship run. With both team success and individual impact, Marzo proved why he was one of Hawai‘i's premier players throughout the 2026 campaign.
Mililani entered the postseason with high expectations after capturing the OIA Championship and establishing itself as one of the state's top teams. The Trojans embraced those expectations and responded with dominant performances throughout both league and state tournament play. Facing some of the best competition Hawai‘i baseball had to offer, Mililani consistently found ways to win, relying on a combination of pitching, defense, and timely hitting. Throughout that journey, Marzo remained a steady presence in the lineup and clubhouse. His leadership and experience helped keep the Trojans focused as they pursued a goal that had never been accomplished in the program's history.
The defining moment of Marzo's season came on championship night against PAC-5. In a tightly contested pitchers' duel, every opportunity carried added importance as both teams battled for the state title. With the game scoreless heading into the bottom of the seventh inning, Mililani found itself one swing away from history. Marzo delivered when his team needed him most, driving in the game-winning run and securing the first baseball state championship in school history. It was a moment that instantly became one of the most memorable plays in Mililani athletics, cementing his place in Trojan baseball history.
While the championship-winning hit will be remembered for years to come, Marzo's impact extended far beyond a single at-bat. Throughout the season, he provided production at the plate, strong defense, and veteran leadership that helped set the tone for the entire roster. As one of the leaders of the team, he consistently embraced the pressure that comes with competing for championships. Whether it was during league play, the OIA playoffs, or the state tournament, Marzo continued to deliver in serious situations. His ability to remain composed in the biggest moments became one of the defining characteristics of Mililani's championship season.
The historic title run also marked the end of an outstanding high school career for the future Rainbow Warrior. Leaving behind a program in a better place than he found it, Marzo helped establish a new standard for Mililani Baseball and showed what is possible when talent, preparation, and belief come together. His contributions will be remembered not only for the championships won but also for the legacy he leaves behind for future generations of Trojans. The first state title banner in program history will forever serve as a reminder of what this group accomplished.
As May comes to a close, Koa Marzo earns recognition as the final recipient of the NorthVue Cover Athlete of the Month Award for the 2025-2026 school year. Congratulations to Koa on being named the May 2026 Cover Athlete of the Month presented by Matsumoto Shave Ice.
A special mahalo to Matsumoto Shave Ice for serving as the presenting sponsor of the NorthVue Cover Athlete of the Month Award throughout its inaugural season. Their support helped us recognize and celebrate student-athletes from across Hawai‘i while continuing to shine a spotlight on the hard work, dedication, and achievements of local athletes.
As we close the book on the inaugural year of the NorthVue Cover Athlete of the Month Award, we want to extend a heartfelt mahalo to every athlete, coach, family member, school, and supporter who followed along throughout the season. What started as an idea quickly turned into one of our favorite projects, allowing us to tell the stories of Hawai‘i's student-athletes and celebrate their accomplishments on and off the field. The support from the community made this award bigger than we ever imagined, and with another season of unforgettable moments, breakout stars, championship runs, and inspiring stories on the horizon, we already can't wait for next year. The inaugural season may be over, but the search for the next group of athletes to earn the 2026-2027 NorthVue Cover Athlete of the Month Award is just getting started.
