The 2026 OIA D2 Girls Soccer Championship between the Kailua Surfriders and Radford Rams was an all out battle. the two teams met earlier in the regular season with kailua dominating radford 4-0. with a d2 championship on the line, the lady rams would look to get even and walk away with a d2 plaque and the lady surfriders would look to become back to back champs.
Radford would find the back of the net first from Emma McNaughton in the 26th minute. radford would only be the second team this season against kailua who have scored a goal on them. both teams being solid on defense, there would be moments from both sides to counter and find the back of the net. kailua would do just that shortly after in the 28th minute a with a goal from Tatum Leong-Waugh to tie up the match.
The Lady Rams would take the lead again shortly after the half from Sabre Telles-Kuwahara. with only letting one goal scored against the lady surfriders all season, there was now 2 goals scored in one match. With what looked to be all Rams, Junior Forward, Sophie Lugo, would come up big late in the match. Sophie would tie things up late in the second half to hopefully find another goal to score or send it to overtime.
just when both teams were trading counter attacks with minutes left in the game, Sophie Lugo name would be called in moments where stars shine bright and she would find the back of the net with only 11 seconds left. the junior forward left it all on the field and helped the lady surfriders secure the win in an all out battle between the radford rams.
in a championship match that looked that was going to overtime, was ended by the golden boot of Sophie Lugo. The Kailua Surfriders would be named your 2026 OIA D2 Girls Soccer Champions and are your d2 oia back to back champs. Congratulations to the Lady Surfriders Soccer Program, School and Community!
