Honolulu, HI
NBA Basketball Returns to Hawai'i, as the Los Angeles Clippers Open preseason Training Camp on O'ahu for their 2026-27 season. With the NBA back on the islands, they bring national attention and a new level of energy, as the team prepares for the upcoming season in paradise.
Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 29, the Clippers took over Gym II at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa, where players and coaches will spend the week preparing for the season ahead. For Hawai'i basketball fans, the arrival is about more than just another preseason stop. This marks the sixth time the Clippers have held training camp in Hawai'i since 2017, continuing a relationship between the organization and the Islands that has brought professional basketball back to O'ahu on a regular basis.

While Hawai'i provides a unique backdrop for an NBA training camp, the Clippers are in the Islands with a clear purpose, and thats to prepare for another long and challenging season. Los Angeles CLippers Head coach, Tyronn Lue, and his staff are using the week to build chemistry, establish their identity and prepare the roster for the long season ahead. “Our main goal is to make the playoffs,” Lue said during the team's first day in Hawai'i. The message has remained consistent throughout camp. The scenery may be different, but the work is the same. Practices at UH Manoa have given the Clippers an opportunity to evaluate their roster, develop chemistry and begin putting together the pieces they will need once the regular season begins.

The Clippers presence also gives local basketball fans an opportunity that doesn't come around often, watching an NBA team prepare for its season right here on O'ahu. The team will remain in Hawai'i through Saturday before turning its attention toward its first preseason game. The Clippers are scheduled to face the Golden State Warriors on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 1 p.m. Hawai'i time at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.
The Warriors are holding their own training camp at BYU–Hawai'i, meaning two NBA organizations are preparing for the season in the Islands at the same time. For basketball fans across Hawai'i, it creates a unique week. NBA players practicing on local courts, coaches preparing for another season and fans getting an early look at two Western Conference teams before the regular season tips off.

The beginning of another NBA season starts in Hawai'i. The return of the NBA provides young basketball players across the state with the opportunity to see professional athletes training in their own community and it also continues to showcase Hawai'i as a destination capable of hosting major professional sports organizations and events. The Clippers have made the Islands part of their preseason routine for nearly a decade, and their return continues that connection. With training camp underway at UH Manoa and a preseason showdown with Golden State approaching, basketball has once again taken center stage in Hawai'i.
