Kapolei, HI
The Mililani Trojans and Kalani Falcons faced off in the final match of the 2026 OIA D1 Championship. With both teams hoping to lift the Koa Wood in a couple weeks, phase one of winning the OIA plaque would be in front of them.
It’s nothing new for the Trojans to get to this stage in the playoffs. With the history of excellence that they have, this is their first stop in the tournament to conquer as they ramp themselves up to get back to the State Championship. The Trojans fell short last year to ‘Iolani in the penalty shootout. With a chance to go back to back after also playing ‘Iolani and winning 1-0, the Trojans dreams were cut short and now hope to avenge their loss later in States.
As for Kalani, they too are no strangers to the post season. The Falcons have been one of the best teams that come out of the East Division and have always had a successful season. The last time they were in the OIA championship, was 3 years ago when they also have faced Mililani. With a chance to earn their first league title since 2018, the Falcons would have to stop the current 4x back to back champion.
Momentum was on the Falcons side though. After nearly escaping 3-2 against the Campbell Sabers in their semifinal match, they knew they had a good shot to pull the upset against the Trojans. The Campbell Sabers were the only team this year to hand Mililani it’s only regular season loss. The Trojans have been undefeated in the regular season for the past 3 years. With the new format that the OIA has for season play, the two rivals would see each other twice and the outcome was not what the Trojans were expecting when they beat them the first time and loss the second.
Mililani was ready to face Campbell again in what would be the tie breaker in the final. Kalani would end that 3rd rematch for the two and set themselves up to hopefully pull two back to back upsets.
Mililani got on the board first with an own goal mistake by Kalani. With the experience that the Trojans have in championship matches, they would go on to turn up the heat as they would add on 4 goals later in the second half. Trojans Brennyn Yoshida, Josiah Ishizaka, Kaito Wilson, and Blaze Lee would be the ones who would help the Trojans dominate the Falcons. the trojans pressure would be too much for the falcons, as they would pick apart their defense and counter when Kalani would make their mistakes.
the mililani trojans would complete phase one of their journey back to the state championship and be named your 2026 OIA D1 Boy’s Soccer Champions! They are now 5 time back to back champs! Congratulations to the Trojans Boys Soccer Program, School, and Community!
Final Score: Mililani 5 - Kalani 0
