Waipahu, hi
Two rivals with one goal… win the Koa Wood Trophy. The final game of the 2025-2026 Girls Soccer season came down to the top two teams in the state. The 2026 HHSAA D1 Girl’s Soccer State Championship match between the Kamehameha Kapalama Warriors and Punahou Buff-N-Blue would be the 5th straight meeting in the state title match. Punahou was looking to add to their dynasty of becoming a 4th peat state champion. The ladies from Kapalama were looking to end their drought of falling short and finally lifting the Koa Wood once again.
it would be the 7th straight state title appearance for kamehameha. their last title won was back in 2022 when they had defeated Punahou. since then, the ladies from Manoa have been building up a soccer dynasty with the three titles they have won back to back to back. both teams have a lot of history and knowledge of each other, playing twice a year in conference play, they would always end up seeing each other one more time during the state tournament. a championship rival to compare them to that we've seen in the finals play consecutive years, is the golden state warriors and Cleveland cavaliers.
it has been a great season for the ladies of kamehameha. with only one loss to Punahou in the regular season, the kamehameha warriors would look to end the dynasty of their ilh rival. their leading scores heading into the state tournament: kaahupahau Montgomery and Camryn gouveia. the junior and senior duos have a lot of experience in the post season, and knowing that it would be Camryn gouveia and other seniors last year, the opportunity of ending a 3 year drought was right in front of them again. they would go on to dominate everyone in their path to the title game after defeating the mililani trojans in the quarterfinal 3-1 and kaiser cougars in the semifinal 6-0. the lady warriors would have yet again another shot against ilh rival to bring the koa wood back home.
the ladies from Manoa knows what it takes to finish the season strong. after not placing in the top 4 seeding for the tournament, they would have to find their way back to the title match after falling short to the ilh champs of kamehameha. Punahou would take care of the pearl city chargers at home for the opening round of the state tournament 3-0. they would dominate the hilo vikings in the quarterfinal 7-0 and barley getting away with a win against kamehameha-maui in the semifinal match 1-0.
it would be a fun game to see, as both teams would have a gouveia sister playing for their squad. kamehameha senior midfielder, Camryn Gouveia, and Punahou sophomore midfielder, cara gouviea, would get a final chance to play against each other in the biggest game of their high school careers. cara who was the younger sister to win a state title last year, would look to get bragging rights again and win it for her second year in a row. as for camryn, finishing her senior year with a state title for her school and herself would be the perfect ending for her senior year.
the two teams always bring a lot of excitement and energy to the final game of the season. both teams filled the stands with their home base and feeding off their energy. Kamehameha would find the back of the net first by Junior Forward, Shelby Aoki off an outside assist by Cassie Jenkins in the 12th minute. the lady warriors would continue to pressure the lady buff-n-blue and would add on another goal just 6 minutes later by one of Kamehameha lead scorer, Ionare Ve’e.
With everything going Kamehameha way, Senior Midfielder, Camryn Gouveia, would add one more goal right after the half to have kamehameha go up 3-0. after trialing the past 3 years in the state final against the buff-n-blue, the kamehameha warriors have finally got themselves on the other side of the game leading in a dominant fashion.
Punahou, Maya Yoshimura, would add Punahou on the board with a goal of her own, but the ladies of Kamehameha Kapalama would get the job done and knock off the 3 time reigning and defending state champs. The Kamehameha Kapalama Warriors are your New 2026 HHSAA D1 Girl’s Soccer State Champions. THEY HAVE NOW CLAIMED THEIR 12TH STATE TITLE OVERALL.
