Camryn Gouveia, a standout midfielder for the Kamehameha Lady Warriors, has been named the January 2026 Cover Athlete of the Month, presented by Matsumoto Shave Ice. The California Baptist commit has emerged as a key leader for Kamehameha this season, helping guide the Lady Warriors back to the state championship.
Kamehameha has been a regular contender in the State Tournament, reaching the championship match every year since 2019. After a few tough seasons, including narrow losses to league rivals Punahou, this year’s squad, anchored by Gouveia, was determined to reclaim the top spot.
Throughout the season, Gouveia scored 6 goals across all competitions, contributing at critical moments for the Lady Warriors. Her most notable performance came in the state semifinal against Kaiser, where her vision and playmaking in the midfield helped control the tempo of the game and secure a victory that sent Kamehameha to the championship match against Punahou.
In the state championship game, Gouveia’s role as a midfielder was pivotal. She helped transition the ball from defense to offense, maintain possession, and create opportunities for her teammates. When Kamehameha earned a foul 25 yards from the goal, Gouveia stepped up and struck the ball perfectly into the top corner of the net, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. The goal proved decisive in securing the Koa Wood Trophy and marking a triumphant season for the team’s seniors.
Gouveia’s performance this season demonstrates her combination of skill, leadership, and composure. As a midfielder, she consistently controls the flow of the game, sets up scoring chances, and helps orchestrate both defensive and offensive plays. Her ability to perform in clutch moments has made her a standout athlete and a deserving recipient of this month’s award.
As the Month of January comes to an end, the search for a new Cover Athlete of the Month begins. Who is going to walk away with the award for February? Only time will tell as we announce the winner next month.
