St. Louis traveled from Honolulu to California looking for its first win of the 2026 season, but the Crusaders ran into one of the most talented teams in the country.
Sierra Canyon came out firing Thursday night, defeating St. Louis in a nationally recognized matchup between two programs with plenty of history and talent. The Trailblazers improved to 3-0 on the season, while St. Louis dropped to 0-4.
Sierra Canyon entered the matchup already coming off two impressive wins, defeating JSerra Catholic 42-21 before traveling to Florida and taking down Chaminade-Madonna 24-7. The Trailblazers had outscored those two opponents 66-28 heading into the St. Louis game, and their defense continued to set the tone.
The Trailblazers defense is loaded with high level college talent. Four star defensive linemen, Kasi Currie, is committed to the university of Texas and five star defensive lineman, Marcus Fakatou, is committed to Ohio State, anchoring a defensive front that can create problems for opposing offenses. Sierra Canyon also features senior safety and ucla commit, Myles Baker, senior safety Faruq Muhammad, and senior cornerback Duvay Williams, giving the Trailblazers experience throughout the secondary.
The size up front is hard to miss. Currie is listed at 6-foot-4.5 and 330 pounds, while Fakatou stands 6-foot-7 and 275 pounds. Sophomore defensive lineman Stephan Harrison is listed at 6-foot-3 and 255 pounds, while senior defensive lineman Cooper Cook checks in at 6-foot-3 and 260 pounds.
That combination of size, speed and experience helped Sierra Canyon keep St. Louis off the scoreboard. The Crusaders entered the game having already faced IMG Academy, another nationally recognized program, and were preparing for another major challenge against St. John Bosco after the Sierra Canyon game.
On offense, Sierra Canyon quarterback Demarco Hernandez had a night to remember. Hernandez completed all seven of his passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns while also adding a rushing touchdown.
Running back Jaxsen Stokes also gives the Trailblazers another major weapon, while receivers such as King Webb and Christian Butler add even more athleticism to an offense that has quickly established itself as one of California's most dangerous units.
For St. Louis, the matchup was another difficult chapter in an incredibly demanding opening stretch. The Crusaders opened the season against the Kahuku Red raiders and Mililani Trojans before facing IMG Academy and then Sierra Canyon. Their schedule does not get any easier, with St. John Bosco coming to Honolulu next week.
The game itself was ultimately called early after an injury involving St. Louis sophomore quarterback, Luke Shigeta, with 6:41 remaining in the third quarter. Following a lengthy delay, both coaching staffs agreed to end the game, with Sierra Canyon earning the 52-0 victory.
Despite the difficult result, the matchup represented another opportunity for St. Louis to compete against elite national competition. The Crusaders have now faced two nationally recognized California and florida programs in the opening weeks of the season, continuing a trend of Hawai'i top programs testing themselves against some of the best teams on the mainland.
