When the #1 and #2 teams in the state face off, you know that there is always going to be fireworks going off. 'Iolani and Kamehameha-Kapalama faced off for the third and final time in league play.
'Iolani would take the first two matches away from the lady warriors by going the distance in the first meet-up, and then finishing the job early in three sets in the rematch. With the trilogy on the rise, the Lady Raiders wanted to complete their undefeated season in league play over the Lady Warriors.
Heavy Hitters on both sides of the net would be crucial for this matchup. Poema Kalama-Kingma for 'Iolani and Kalaweloleihua chock for Kamehameha played big roles for their squads in the match. They would both combine for a total of 51 kills, a preview of what might be on display for the postseason play.
Kamehameha had their backs against the ropes in this match, having fallen twice previously to the raiders; this match held more weight than anticipated. Not only was it a matchup with the team they were facing, but it was also senior night for the Lady Warriors.
It would be a back-and-forth battle all game. Kamehameha would take the first set, but if there is anything we know about this 'Iolani team, it's that they start to get going when they feel pressured. The Lady Raiders would go on and take sets 2 & 3 away from Kamehameha and surely would've taken away set 4. It would be the senior kalaweloleihua chock that helped the warriors take back set 4 and send this game to the distance.
It wouldn't be smooth sailing for either team in set 5. Points going back and forth and down to the wire would be the way this game would end. Kamehameha would trail 10-6 late in the fifth set, but they would go on a 9-2 run led by who else but Kalaweloleihua Chock to help them seal the win.
Kamehameha would take away the third game and its first win over 'Iolani on the season.
