Haleiwa, HI
Under the lights with a championship at stake, Dalexy Sanchez delivered a standout performance, stepping up when it counted most and erasing any doubt. The Campbell senior shone in the OIA D1 Championship, crafting a night that defined both the game and her final OIA run.
Sanchez’s efforts earned her April 2026 Cover Athlete of the Month, presented by Matsumoto Shave Ice. A key Lady Sabers player all season, she brought power and composure to the lineup, helping Campbell during their strong OIA run.
Campbell entered the postseason as one of the top teams in the OIA, navigating through a competitive field on their way to the championship. The Sabers were tested in the semifinal round, needing extra innings to get past Mililani in a hard-fought battle that punched their ticket to the final, while Kapolei came in with momentum after a close win over Moanalua.
As the season progressed into April, Sanchez elevated her game and became one of the most dangerous hitters in the lineup. In a matchup against Pearl City on April 2, she delivered a home run and drove in three runs, showing her ability to impact the game in key moments. Later in the month, against Kapolei on April 25, she put together one of her strongest performances of the season, going 3-for-4 with two home runs and six RBIs, a performance that carried momentum into the postseason.
That momentum carried straight into the OIA D1 Championship game, where Sanchez delivered on the biggest stage. She went 3-for-4 at the plate with a home run and a grand slam, helping Campbell take full control of the game. Her grand slam came during a massive inning that broke the game wide open, turning it into a statement win for the Sabers.
For Sanchez, the moment meant even more as it marked her final OIA appearance. To step up in that way and deliver in a championship setting speaks to the type of player she has been throughout her career. Her ability to rise in big moments and lead by example played a major role in Campbell securing the OIA D1 title.
With the OIA Championship secured, Sanchez and the Lady Sabers now turn their focus toward the state tournament, with their eyes set on the Koa Wood. Looking to bring it back to Ewa Beach for the first time since 2023, Campbell will lean on the same energy and execution that defined their championship run.
As April comes to an end, the search for the next Cover Athlete of the Month begins. Who will win the award for May? Only time will tell, as we announce the winner next month.
Congratulations to Dalexy on being named the Cover Athlete of the Month presented by Matsumoto Shave Ice.
