Kahuku, HI
The final weeks of the OIA season comes down to Mililani going up North to take on Kahuku in what would ultimately seal the number one seed in the standings. Two undefeated teams in league play, Mililani would try to upset Kahuku on their homecoming night, but that would not be the case.
After an undefeated start for the trojans, they would ride with the momentum from the preseason despite the loss coming from the defending state champs, st Louis, and dominate both sides of the ball. After taking down Campbell who was also undefeated at the time of play, it would only be kahuku in their way to hopefully finish the season undefeated. The last time the trojans went up north and took down the red raiders, was back in 2018 when Dillion Gabriel was at qb.
The Red raiders had a lot on the line as well. Besides an opportunity to clinch the first seed in the oia, it was also their homecoming and senior night. after taking three losses to the best of the best in the preseason, kahuku has found their identity after facing the mater monarchs in week 5 and have been shutting down offenses like they are known for. Senior qb for the red raiders, troy mariteragi, has also been finding his groove with the offense and finding themselves in the endzone. They've played a dominate game against the Farrington governors the week before, ending with a 71 - 7 ball game.
the closing of the the regular season always has everyone thinking the possibility's that can happen. in this case, all eyes were up north Friday night and the number one seed was up for grabs. Two oia undefeated teams, going at it and the rivalry continues as these two teams always bring out the best out of each other.
The Red Raiders jumped to a fast rushing TD from Sophomore, Toa Sam, and the Raiders Defense fed off the offense. Kahuku would later on put more points in the half going up 35-0 at the half. Kahuku would find themselves on the scoreboard again off a 93 kickoff TD return from Senior DB, Madden Soilai.
Mililani would erase the goose egg and add points, but in the end Kahuku would dominate on homecoming night and secure the number one seed and remain undefeated in league play. Mililani will now play against the Kapolei hurricanes, in the fight for the second seed.
Final Score: Kahuku 45 - Mililani 20
