Waipahu, HI
The Marauders continued their dominant run through OIA Division I play Friday night, taking down league rival Waianae Seariders in a matchup that carried plenty of weight on both sides.
Waipahu entered the night sitting alone at the top of the OIA D1 rankings after taking care of business against its league competition. Waianae had its sights set on doing what few teams have been able to do, knock off the Marauders and turn Homecoming night into an upset celebration.
From the opening minutes, Waipahu's offense looked determined to make a statement. Sophomore QB, Jake Garcia, delivered one of his strongest performances of the season, throwing for nearly 400 yards and four touchdowns while consistently finding ways to attack the Waianae secondary. His accuracy and ability to push the ball downfield kept the Seariders under pressure throughout the night. Sophomore WR, Jayse Braun and Senior RB, Tristan Pacheco made their presence known behind Garcia's performance with each scoring on homecoming.
Every time Waianae appeared to have an opportunity to build momentum, Waipahu answered. The Marauders offensive execution was the difference. Big plays came through the air, drives continued to move, and the scoreboard continued to favor the home team as the game progressed. For Waianae, the night was especially difficult considering what was at stake. Homecoming brought an energized crowd and an opportunity to challenge the No. 1 team in the division on its own field. The Seariders had already shown throughout the season that they were capable of dominating opponents, making the matchup one of the more anticipated games on the OIA schedule, But Waipahu proved to be a different challenge.
The Marauders didn't simply survive the pressure of the rivalry. They took control of it. A 42-14 final score sent a clear message across the OIA Division I board, Waipahu remains the team everyone is chasing. The victory also continues what has been an impressive stretch for a Waipahu program that has quickly established itself as one of the most dangerous teams in the division. The Marauders have shown explosiveness on offense, confidence in the passing game and the ability to turn competitive matchups into decisive victories.
It is an offense that continues to find answers, a team that plays with confidence and a program that appears comfortable carrying the pressure that comes with being at the top. For Waianae, the loss is a setback, but the season is far from over. The Seariders have already demonstrated that they can compete at a high level and will have opportunities ahead to respond. The Marauders are chasing the top spot, and every victory brings them closer to securing their place when the postseason arrives.
Final Score: Waipahu 42 - Waianae 14
