Haleiwa, HI
Kahiau Aina, a standout for the Mililani softball team, has been named the March 2026 Cover Athlete of the Month, presented by Matsumoto Shave Ice. The University of Washington commit has been a dominant force at the plate this season, helping lead Mililani to an undefeated record and establishing herself as one of the top players in the state.
Mililani opened up the season as the two-time defending state champions and is looking to repeat as state champs once again to gain the elusive third title. Not an easy task, as the state is littered with talent all over the board, making this year's race for the Koa Wood trophy one of the more memorable title races we have seen to date.
Aina has delivered consistent production throughout the season, using her power and discipline at the plate to impact games in multiple ways. In a key matchup against Campbell on March 4, she went 2-for-5 with a home run and an RBI, setting the tone early against a strong opponent. She followed that performance with another home run against Campbell on March 27, continuing to show her ability to perform in big games.
Her most impressive outing came against Wai‘anae on March 24, where she went a perfect 3-for-3 with two home runs and three RBIs, leading Mililani to a dominant win. Just days later against Kapolei, Kahiau delivered another standout performance, going 3-for-3 with a triple, a home run, and four RBIs—further showcasing her ability to produce in high-pressure situations.
Aina’s impact extends beyond her statistics. Her leadership, experience, and ability to deliver in key moments have helped guide Mililani through the season, keeping the team composed and focused as they prepare for another postseason run.
As March comes to an end, the search for the next Cover Athlete of the Month begins. Who will win the award for April? Only time will tell, as we announce the winner next month.
Congratulations to Kahiau on being named the Cover Athlete of the Month presented by Matsumoto Shave Ice.
Mahalo to our sponsor, Matsumoto Shave Ice, for their continued support of student-athletes across the State of Hawai‘i.
